Auf Lager
Following on from the CD version released in 2018, this is the first time this record has been available on vinyl. The first of The Shadows many Saturday Club appearances that have been unearthed dates from December 1965 (first broadcast on Christmas Day), all though, the band had made at least eighteen appearances prior to this - five of them while they were still calling themselves The Drifters.
The line-up for these six Saturday Club sessions remained constant, featuring Hank Marvin (lead guitar), Bruce Welch (rhythm guitar), John Rostill (bass) and Brian Bennett (drums). The Shadows temporarily disbanded in 1968 and Hank and Bruce went on to form a trio with John Farrar, previously with The Strangers.
The BBC ‘Keeping It Peel’ archive shows it was this trio, together with the returned Brian Bennett and session musician Mo Foster on bass, that recorded The Shadows 1973 session for John Peel’s show - which also went out on Christmas Day.
