In Through The Out Door was to be the final studio album from British rock band Led Zeppelin, released prior to the disbandment of the band after the passing of Drummer John Bonham in 1980.  The title was derived from the passing of Plant’s son, Karac in 1977 and the taxation exile the band endured, stopping them from touring in the UK for two years.

The album was recorded in Polar Studios in Sweden, which was set up by ABBA musicians Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson along with the band's manager Stig Anderson, owner of the Polar Music recording label.  This came shortly after the band began rehearsing material for the album just six weeks before.  Bassist and Keyboard John Paul Jones, along with singer Robert Plant offer more of an influence on this album in comparison to previous releases where drummer John Bonham and guitarist Jimmy Page were more prominent.  This came as a result of Bonham and Page’s battles with addiction leading to Jones and Plant leading the sessions.

The original album was released shortly after their twin concerts at Knebworth in 1979 and were greeted with widespread critical acclaim.  The album charted in the Top 10 of 8 territories, including the No. 1 spot in the UK and the US.  The album has since been awarded platinum certification in the UK, two times platinum in Australia and 6 times platinum in the US.
