Filmed in 1973 during British rock band, Led Zeppelin’s three nights at Madison Square Gardens in New York City, this 4LP is the audio recording from the 1976 concert film of the same name.

All of the songs featured on this live album were recorded using the Wally Heider Mobile Studio truck by Eddie Kramer and then later mixed at both Trident Studios in London and Electric Lady Studios in New York.  The original film came as a result of Peter Grant, Led Zeppelin’s manager, contacting Joe Massot who directed the film, opting for a cinema release rather than television, as Peter Grant felt the sound quality of television at the time did not do the band justice.

Upon release, the album reached the Top 10 in 5 territories including the No. 1 spot in the UK and the No. 2 spot in the US.  The album has since gone on to receive platinum certification in the UK and 4 times platinum certification in the US.
