Homework (1CD)
A stalwart and pioneer of French house, Homework was Daft Punk’s seminal debut album released in 1997.
For a couple of years building up to the album’s release, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, aka. Daft Punk, were building up a name for themselves with demos they were building. This culminated in the release of the single The New Wave on Soma Quality Recordings in 1994. Following this, the French electronic duo released a single of Da Funk, before signing to Virgin Records. They re-released Da Funk as the first single of Homework, an instrumental track heavily influenced by acid house.
Perhaps the most famous track from the album is Around The World, featuring the iconic, catchy bass line and sublime, smooth synths to produce a track that featured heavily across many best of the 90s lists in the media. Charting in 14 different countries, the album was truly loved “around the world” peaking at number 3 in Daft Punk’s native France, and number 8 in the UK. The album continues to influence house music to this day, and provided a vital shining light on the exhilarating French progressive house scene at the time.
