Unlike its predecessor, ‘Hunky Dory’, Bowie’s fifth album was predominantly guitar based and set him on a path to stardom with his Glam Rock sound and style.  You can hear Spiders From Mars guitarist Mick Ronson’s iconic sound on some of Bowie’s most enduring classics like ‘Ziggy Stardust’ and ‘Suffragette City’ and of course ‘Starman’.

In 2017, the album was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry which designates it as a sound recording that has had significant cultural, historical, or aesthetic impact in American life.
